Dear friends and colleagues,
Sadly, this year, for well-known reasons, we will not be able to meet all of you at the traditional celebration of our Armed Forces
day. We will nevertheless try to convey to you the spirit of this day by sharing a few words, hoping at the same time, that we will be able to meet again soon enough, all in good health, and ready to share again in person good moments of friendship.
Today, 4th of November, we celebrate the Italian Day of the Armed Forces and the Unification of Italy in the date that marked the
end of the Great War and that fulfilled the Risorgimento’s dream to see Italy finally united. The celebration of November 4th is deeply felt in the conscience of our country and from 1918 onward has remained unchanged despite the institutional upheavals and
the political changes that have occurred over time.
The decision to celebrate November 4th expresses the feeling of sharing a common destiny that demanded such a high price, and that
eventually unified not only the land but also our hearts. Our Armed Forces today continue to ensure their service to the nation with professionalism and passion, in our country, abroad within UN and NATO mission and, today, in support of the national effort
to face the Covid-19 pandemic.
On this day of celebration and national memory, we share with you the sentiment of deep gratitude and profound respect that the country
expresses to all the soldiers who fell during the fulfillment of their duty and to their families.
