Dear Mr Waxman,

Following up on your exchange with Eran, we are delighted to personally invite you to the Fifth Germany-Israel Strategic Forum, which will take place in the German Federal Ministry of Defence in Berlin, Germany on 28-29 November, 2017.

The event is jointly organized by the Forum of Strategic Dialogue (FSD: www.f-sd.eu), the European Leadership Network (ELNET: www.elnetwork.eu), and the Federal Academy for Security Policy (BAKS: www.baks.bund.de). This year the German Federal Ministry of Defence is, once again, a partner and will host participants for an official evening reception at their premises. In addition, we look forward to the keynote addresses of Vice President of the German Federal Intelligence Service Ole Diehl and Prime Minister of Hessen Volker Bouffier.

Originally initiated by ELNET, the FSD conducts Strategic Dialogues with Germany, France, the UK, Poland and the EU on an annual basis, is cooperating with NATO, and has gained reputation as a unique forum for frank, deep and significant strategic discussions between professionals and decision-makers. All discussions are held under the ‘Chatham House rule’ and remain entirely discrete.

The model of the annual Germany-Israel Strategic Forum has proven its success as a platform for informal consultations, allowing for out-of-the-box problem-solving thinking beyond the constraints of formal intergovernmental relations. As in the previous years, there will be around 30 participants from Germany and Israel. These will include senior figures from the ministries of foreign affairs and defence as well as leading members of parliament and public opinion leaders.

Participants are expected to arrive in Berlin on Tuesday 28 November, and attend all sessions throughout the entire Forum. We will organize all the logistical aspects of the visit and cover transportation and accommodation.

Please find enclosed the tentative list of topics and invited German participants. A detailed program and administrative details will be sent in due course.

We very much hope you will consider participating in this unique event. Please save the date, and reply to FSD Deputy Director Pascaline Wagemans (03 919 9505; pwagemans@f-sd.eu) to indicate your availability. We are looking forward to hearing from you by 24 August, 2017.

Sincerely,

Eran Etzion
