Thank you Itay.

Bob – hope all is well.  It’s been a long time since we last spoke but glad to work with you.

More than happy to help.  A few questions:

  1. Is the visit public?  I want to make sure that we are prepared for any chance, even small, that there could be protests.
  2. I will check in with Hillel about the date/time and get back to you ASAP
  3. The last day of exams is June 9 so there may be some difficulty in getting students from UChicago and/or other area campuses but we will do our best

Emily

Hi Emily,

Thank you for assisting us with the program, please see under the description of the delegation and what are they interested in.

Perhaps we can arrange a lunch for them at hillel (they will pay the catering) or they will have the lunch at booth. What sounds better to you?

Hi Emily,

Pursuant to our conversation, I am writing to ask for your assistance in arranging a meeting for a very special Israeli delegation: 30-40 high level ranking active duty Israeli military officers (from the rank of Lt. Colonel and above) who have recently completed a special course of study at the Israel National Defense College, a prestigious institution (comparable to the US Army War College).

We will be on the University of Chicago campus for meetings from 11 am- 1:00 pm on June 12th.

Would it be possible to arrange a kosher lunch for the group by around 1:15-1:30 pm followed by a panel on BDS on campus?

We would greatly appreciate it.

Some additional background: This course is designed to educate future leaders responsible for the security of the State of Israel in the fields of the history, policy, society, economics, foreign relations and science. These men and women come from the IDF as well as Israel Ministries of Defense, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Finance, Labor and Welfare, Industry and Environment. The class is also open to representatives of foreign militaries and governments (including the US).

This year, the National Defense College tour is focusing upon, “The Influence of Domestic Issues upon Foreign Policy” as a general theme. The BDS debate certainly fits those parameters.

I will be out of the office for two weeks beginning tomorrow. In my absence, Bob Schwartz, our Senior Policy Advisor, whom you know, will be your POC. His e-mail is: political@chicago.mfa.gov.il  and his direct line is:

(312) 380-8812

Thanks for all your assistance on this visit.
