Subject : Lady Gaga addresses Madonna drama in new movie

Lady Gaga doesn’t shy away from sharing personal details about her life in the forthcoming documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two, including discussing her long-running battle with Madonna. “So the thing with me and Madonna, for example, is that I admired her always,” Lady Gaga says during the film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday and will debut on Netflix later this month. “And I still admire her, no matter what she might think of me.” Back in 2012, after the release of Lady Gaga’s hit “Born This Way,” which some criticized as sounding very similar to Madonna’s “Express Yourself,” Madonna herself called the song “reductive.” In the new film, Gaga says she’s upset Madonna didn’t express her complaints in person and, instead, used the media to attack. “She wouldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that I was reductive or whatever,” Lady Gaga says. “Telling me you think I’m a piece of sh– through the media? It’s like a guy passing me a note through his friend. … I just want Madonna to push me up against the wall and kiss me and tell me I’m a piece of sh–.” In the years since Madonna called Lady Gaga “reductive,” the two have occasionally taken shots at each other in the press. “The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt like she blatantly ripped off one of my songs,” Madonna told Rolling Stone in 2015. “It’s got nothing to do with ‘she’s taking my crown’ or ‘she’s in some space of mine.’ She has her thing. I do think she’s a very talented singer and songwriter. It was just that one issue.” In 2016, Lady Gaga was asked about Madonna comparisons during an interview with Zane Lowe — a claim she batted away. “I don’t mean to disrespect Madonna … she’s a nice lady. And she’s had a fantastic, huge career,” she said at the time. “She’s the biggest pop star of all time. But I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I’m a producer. I’m a writer. What I do is different.” Gaga: Five Foot Two is out Sept. 22. This article was originally published on EW.com
