Boker tov Haim,

after recovery I try to catch up with the research proposal for my final paper.

I read again the paper of Michael Rueb and I think that his and my paper are almost on the same topic but have different approaches.

 

I think, that

·         His paper is on the role of Germany by itself whereas mine will be on Germany in the EU.

·         He is focusing on modern mediation in political science and how to operate mediation whereas I try to show the role of one state in an alliance.

·         He stresses the Arab upspring and the Euro Crisis whereas I would like to focus on Immigration, Brexit, growing nationalism.

·         He covers the EU as well with its potentials but shows only the “normal” role o Germany in it, I try to analyze which potential has Germany to “steer/influence/guide” the EU.

·         His paper is dated 2012 with issues like the economic crisis, the Arab spring in the background, mine has more the situation in SYR, BREXIT, growing nationalism.

·         Some things of his ideas, e.g. E3, will be no more possible in this way.

·         Especially the last Para on page 88 / first lines on page 89 and the last Para on page 89 is my question: Is Germany able to lead a Common Foreign and Security Policy in favor of a bigger role in the Israel - Palestine conflict?

 

So to sum up, there are interfaces but two different approaches.

I try to stress this more in my research proposal and try to send this to you until Sunday.

 

How are we then going to proceed?

·         If you give green light to the proposal, I would give it to Orna and Prof Ben Zvi. Both at the same time? Or one after the other?

·         I still have no idea about the accompanying instructor. Prof Ben Zvi (he accompanied Michael’s paper) might be an idea, Josh (because of International Organizations) as well. Have not spoken to anyone of them.

·         Do you have any idea when I have to present this proposal to the committee?
