My apologies for not cc ing you on the previous communications between myself and the VP of Nucor steel.

 

CG Ezra that you had expressed some concerns to him about whether the field trip to the steel mill would meet the criteria that you and Matan mentioned during our call with Itay.

 

Please see the e-mail below, especially the lines in bold. And see Mr. Jacobs reply. I believe he understands what you are looking for and will do his best to comply.

 

If this eases your concerns, great. We can then communicate later about those aspects of the program still to be finalized (about which I have followed up with the appropriate parties).

 

If you (and Matan) would still like to have a conference call about this part of the program (and the program in general) with the CG (Itay will be on vacation until the middle of next week), let me know.

Col. Matan Or, who will be leading the group along with former Israeli UN Ambassador Haim Waxman, called me yesterday afternoon to express his appreciation for the opportunity to visit your factory on June 13th.

 

He also stressed to me that these senior officers want to hear- in addition to what your company does- how the steel industry has transformed and modernized in recent decades as well as how you are coping with the impact of international political and economic factors (tariffs and sanctions by the US, boycotts and reciprocal sanctions by the countries targeted by US policies, etc.),

 

Col. Or believes that these senior Israel military officers and future leaders of Israel want to hear about “The Story of Steel” in building the Midwest and the country as a whole and how it remains an essential industrial component of the Midwest economy.

 

I just wanted to relay that to you for some additional guidance for your presentation. I hope that helps.

Dear Johnny,

 

It was nice to speak with you this morning and thank you so much for your willingness to host this special group of around 50 officers (rank of Lt. Colonel and above) from the Israel Defense Forces.

 

These active duty Israeli military officers have recently completed a special course of study at the Israel National Defense College, a prestigious institution (comparable to the US Army War College).

 

Some additional background: This course is designed to educate future leaders responsible for the security of the State of Israel in the fields of the history, policy, society, economics, foreign relations and science. These men and women come from the IDF as well as Israel Ministries of Defense, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Finance, Labor and Welfare, Industry and Environment. The class is also open to representatives of foreign militaries and governments (including the US).

 

This year, the National Defense College tour is focusing upon, “The Influence of Domestic Issues upon Foreign Policy” as a general theme. Obviously the recent tariffs being contemplated for foreign produced steel and its impact on domestic manufacturers certainly fits those parameters. The group would also be interested in hearing about how your company has transitioned and modernized to remain competitive in the global market place.

 

Per our discussion, the group will arrive at the plant at around 1-1:30 pm on June 13^th and, depending when the tour actually begins, will have 1.5 to two hours available before they need to depart for O’Hare airport.
