Hi Matan and Haim,

So what are we doing in the day of may 13th? What did you thin about Rockford and visiting a farm there. And also what are we doing about the breakfast that day? In your hotel or at the JUf?

I’ll be on a two week vacation from Wednesday, so if you want me to close things, better tell me before the end of the day tomorrow

Hi Goldie,

Thanks for your response and your willingness to assist in this visit..

At this point, they would be visiting the Rockford area on Wednesday, June 13th. (so you would be back in town) after a breakfast meeting at the Chicago Jewish Federation and possibly one more meeting downtown.

How long would the drive from downtown Chicago to Rockford take? 90 minutes?

Does Ronit’s catering business furnish kosher food? If not, is there a kosher food option in the area?

Just so you know, one of the overall themes for the group’s visit to the Midwest is the impact of international issues (trade balances, protective tariffs on steel, consequences for agriculture) . Ideally that would be the kind of presentation we would be looking for from a farmer, so a larger one might have more insight into those issues. However it would certainly be nice to meet Jewish farmers, the Israeli couple and other members of the Jewish community-perhaps at lunch?

I did some quick research and the Winnebago-Boone County Farm Bureau, which is based in Rockford, is holding a Summer Ag Institute (“From Field to Table”) from June 11th-14th. There might be the possibility of a lecture to the group as part of this event?

After the tour of the area, they would head straight to O’Hare to travel to New York. I don’t have the exact time of their departure at this point but I would assume that the trip back to the airport would be approximately an hour?

Just to reiterate, we are talking about a group of 40-50 individuals.

Let me know what is doable and if there is anything you want me to do.

Please see the paragraph’s below that describe who comprises this group and the issues they are interested in:

On June 11th-13th , there will be a visit to the Chicago area by 40-50 high level serving Israeli military officers (from the rank of Lt. Colonel and above) who have recently completed a special course at the Israel National Defense College, a prestigious institution (comparable to the US Army War College). This course is designed to educate future leaders responsible for the security of the State of Israel in the fields of the history, policy, society, economics, foreign relations and science.

These men and women come from the IDF as well as Israel Ministries of Defense, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Finance, Labor and Welfare, Industry and Environment. The class is also open to representatives of foreign militaries and governments (including the US).

This year, the National Defense College is focusing upon, “The Influence of Domestic Issues upon Foreign Policy” as a general theme.

For the Chicago visit, topics of interest include:

·         Effects of tariffs and other forms of protectionism and economic nationalism on the stability and strength of the United States and consequent impact on the international trading system as well as local industries and agriculture..

·         The relationship between conflicting Immigration policies at the federal, state and city levels and the political and economic consequences of this jurisdictional and constitutional disputes.

I hope this helps.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks again!

Best,

Bob

Hi Bob,

We would love to host the IDF graduates.  I will be returning from a trip on June 12, but Roni and Ronit Golan would be happy to be the hosts.  They are an active Israeli couple - Roni is an artist and Ronit is a caterer.

We have another member of our Jewish community, Greg and July Sparks, who own a small farm where they grow organic food.  They don't have animals, but they may know of another farm that does.  I will contact them.  If they want to see a bigger farm, I could also contact the farm bureau to see if there are any tours available.

What day(s) would they be here?

Will they spend the night?
