It is our great pleasure to provide you with a small token of appreciation comprised of a collection of 10 postcards depicting different sites in the Land of Israel by British artist David Roberts. The drawings first appeared in the Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt and Nubia, which was published in London in 1855.
Roberts [1796 - 1864] became known after an 11-month expedition to the Middle East between 1838-1839, when he drew almost everything that he came across in his path, and returned to London with 272 drawings. He transformed these drawings to lithographs for the general public, which first encountered original sites from the Land of Israel and the surrounding area. Roberts' work is considered the first and most important work done in the first half of the 19th century, and it provided a vivid initial description of the Land of Israel, which until then had only been known in holy scriptures.
The collection of postcards was specially made as a gesture to the visit of the Higher Command and Staff Course in the National Defense College in Israel.
