that her parents were no one, just two random folks who sold their child for a few dollars of drinking money. But, unlike other parts of the story where flashbacks are shown from different angles or with different details added or removed to provide context
as we learned more, this revelation was confined to words one character told another. And the information could end up being just that: words. “Anything’s still open, and I’m not writing the next film. [J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio] are doing it,” Johnson
told the Huffington Post in a recent interview. It’s also possible that Kylo Ren himself was just making a guess based on incomplete information. “That’s what Kylo sees and that’s what he tells her and I think he’s not lying in that moment,” Johnson said in
another interview. “That’s what he saw and she seems to believe it when she hears it. I don’t want to … I’m not writing the next film, we’ll see how they handle it going forward, and as we all know in these movies, there’s always a certain point of view that’s
involved. But, for me, I’ll tell you that was the … I can understand why that answer doesn’t feel good. It’s not supposed to feel good. It’s supposed to be the hardest thing she could possibly hear in that moment.” It’s all still up in the air, and it sounds
like it will ultimately be up to Abrams and Terrio to decide who Rey’s parents actually are, whether they decide that Ren was telling the truth or if they have their own idea of where to take the character. You didn’t actually think they plan any of this out
