CPT Zimmerman, we are executing the event next week in Washington. NATO ACT are leading the planning for next year’s conference, which will be held in Spain. They have not locked in specific dates yet, but you should presume another execution in the October-November timeframe. We have added you to the invitation list, and you will receive the ‘save the date’ message when it is determined.
Best Regards,
Shaun

Subject: (U) REMINDER: Invitation to the 2018 International Concept Development and Experimentation Conference
CLASSIFICATION: UNCLASSIFIED
Hello, this is a reminder that the 2018 International Concept Development and Experimentation Conference will be held from 30 Oct to 01 November, in Washington DC.
If you have already registered for the event, I'd like to thank you in advance or your participation. We look forward to welcoming you. If you have not, I hope that you will take this opportunity to register for the conference as soon as you can, to take advantage of our early registration pricing. This 35% reduction in the conference fee expires on 01 October, when the conference fee increases from $185 to $220 (still a great price for an event of this caliber!). Also, you should book your accommodations as soon as possible, this group rate of $250, which includes breakfast for the duration of your stay expires on 03 October. We need your registration sooner, rather than later in order for us to prepare your conference badging and provide our venue with attendance numbers so that they can be prepared to support us properly. When registering, you should be prepared to upload a digital photo of yourself (suitable for a passport) for the badge, and to pay the conference fee via a credit card transaction.
*** NOTE: Registering for the conference does not book your room, and booking your room does not register you for the conference. These are two separate actions. Links to both actions are located in the conference web app.
I have enclosed the original invitation, which contains the information and web links you will need to register, and about the event itself. To date, the only significant change to the agenda is the cancellation of the Artificial Intelligence workshop.
If you find that you will not personally be able to attend this year, I hope that you will share this invitation freely with your colleagues or a team member who may find our event useful.
Thank you again for your interest, and I look forward to seeing you in Washington.
Best Regards,
Shaun

Subject: (U) INVITATION: 2018 International Concept Development and Experimentation Conference, Washington, DCCLASSIFICATION: UNCLASSIFIED
On behalf of Mr. Don Morse, Master of Ceremonies, and my co-lead planner, Wing Commander Ruth Wilson, I am pleased to invite you to the
2018 International Concept Development and Experimentation (ICD&E) Conference
to be held 30 OCTOBER - 01 NOVEMBER at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. This is the 18th annual CD&E conference that is co-sponsored by The US Joint Staff, J7 and NATO Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT). Our typical attendance has been approximately 225-250 delegates representing a growing global CD&E community of more than 30 nations and organizations. If this forum is not readily known throughout your organization, I request you forward this invitation to others with whom you may regularly partner in your CD&E efforts, or who can benefit from being a part of this CD&E community event.
This year's conference theme is "CD&E: Confronting the Challenge of a Disrupted Security Environment." In addition to several informative presentations and panels, we will conduct five concurrent workshops/seminars on the following topics:
- "Thinking Wrong" Masterclass and Blitz (Led by ACT's Concept Development Branch and supported by Future Partners Inc.)
- Artificial Intelligence in Education, Training, Exercises and Evaluation (Led by ACT's Joint Force Development Directorate) *This workshop is proposed but is yet to be confirmed.
- From Disruptive Technologies to Capabilities: Exploring New Concepts for Autonomy, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data (Led by the NATO Science and Technology Organisation and Supported by ACTs Autonomy Programme)
- Understanding the Military Implications of Disruptive Technologies (Co-led by the United States Joint Staff J-7 and the Canadian Armed Forces' Director General Capability and Structure Integration (DGCSI))
- Concept Development Management in NATO: "Future Collaboration" (Led by ACT's Concept Development Branch)
For our Keynote address this year, we have invited General Paul J. Selva (USA F), Vice Chairman, United States Joint Chiefs of Staff. We have lined up a town hall discussion to be moderated by author and strategist Dr. David Kilcullen. On day two, noted futurist and author, Mr. August Cole will provide a dynamic plenary address to our attendees. As we wrap up the event, Admiral Manfred Nielson (DEU N), Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation will provide an Endnote address.
This year's conference promises to be an exciting event that will help deliver solutions to our warfighters. Additional information, including links to registration for the conference and for hotel reservations, can be found at Caution-https://cde.cnf.io/ < Caution-https://cde.cnf.io/ > (use password CHERRY for the required access). You can contact me at [+1 757 203 6743] with any questions.
Exceptionally this year, due to the heavy involvement of ACT in Exercise Trident Juncture 18, the annual meeting of the NATO CD&E Working Group will not be held alongside the Conference, but by VTC on 2 October 18. Its main objectives will be to address updates to the program of work and opportunities for collaborative working. Further information will be distributed, and posted on CDE365, as it becomes available.
This mailing is based on your attendance at one of the past three conferences, or from information that I have that you potentially may be interested in attending this year's event. If you know of others who may be interested in this event, attendance from the following fields, as applicable, are desired: CD&E, Research and Development, Science and Technology, Doctrine Development, Military Transformation, Battle Laboratories, Centres of Excellence, Academia, the Defence Industry and Subject Matter Experts based on specific workshops/seminars. Attendees can be from a NATO nation/body, Partnership for Peace, Mediterranean Dialogue or Istanbul Cooperation Initiative nations, or from nations partnering with the US Department of Defense, and you are encouraged to forward this invitation to them as you feel appropriate.
A $35.00 "early registration" discount is being offered for those who register by 01 October 2018. After this date the conference fee will shift from $185 to $220. Additionally, for your convenience we have contracted with the Omni Shoreham Hotel a reduced rate of $250 per night, breakfast included for single and double occupancy, plus applicable taxes. To take advantage of this rate, you must book your room by 3 October, 2018.
On behalf of the entire conference planning staff, we look forward to seeing you in Washington.
Best Regards,
Mr. Shaun Thomas, ICD&E Conference US Lead Planner
