Dear Rameez,
I hope the holidays were enjoyable.
I would like to consult with you regarding the next step in moving our visit forward. I think that if the 15th or 16th of May are possible, we should have our Commandant, MG Heymann, send a letter formally informing your leadership of our visit and requesting the meetings.
If you agree, to whom do you think this letter should be addressed? Are there any other steps we can take from our side to help move things forward?
Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you. We have a student this year who is writing his annual paper on the Druze – I told him when he has progressed a bit he should talk to you.
Sincerely,
Josh Krasna

Thanks for the quick reply! We can probably move to the 15th if that helps.

Hello Josh,
Thanks for the email and nice to hear from you! I look forward to your visit.
I will speak to our dean about this next week, and get back to you. My initial thought is that our entire college has a strategic exercise planned for May 16-18. It involves all the students, and typically also most of the faculty members. That is not to say that we could not host an INDC visit on that day, facilitate the formal reception at NDU, and line up panels. But it is likely that student-to-student interactions would be limited.
But let me run it by our leadership, and I'll get back to you with more details soon.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rameez

Dear Rameez (don't be put off by the new email, it's Josh Krasna),
I hope you and your family had a nice Rosh Hashana and are enjoying the New Year. I also hope that the research you did in Israel regarding the Druze is bearing fruit.
I am very happy to tell you that we have a tentative date for our visit to NDU – 16 May 2017.
As Haim and I discussed with you, we would very much appreciate – in addition to the formal visit to the NDU – having a joint conference or seminar, ideally regarding US defense strategy or policy regarding a Middle East issue, for your and our students and staff, and featuring experts and practitioners from NDU, DoD and Washington policy communities. The subject can be Syria, creating strategy for fighting non-state actors, the challenge of developing policies regarding operations in failed states, the renewed challenge of great power intervention in regional conflict in the Middle East, or any other issue you and the NDU faculty and research bodies might suggest.
Ideally, such a seminar day will include lectures, panels, mixed small group discussions etc.
Our faculty will of course be willing to make presentations and lead discussions as well.
I hope that you will be able help put together the seminar. As you know, we have been in contact in past with the NWC (Dr. Laura Manning Johnson, Col. Adam Oler and Jim Periard), who may be able to help from the NWC side.
I know this is a long lead time, but I know as well that these kind of things take a long time to put together.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely, Dr. Joshua Krasna
