Thank you for getting back to me and I am very sorry I haven’t been in touch sooner – I have been away on an exercise.

I am afraid that I haven’t really given you enough notice so am not expecting you to be able to help out at short notice. We are still waiting for final confirmation from Army HQ that we can still travel but our Battlefield study is due to take place 3-8 Feb 20.

We are an Artillery Regiment and looking primarily at the use of massed fires but also integrated action from WW1 to present day. Our programme is pretty full until the afternoon of Fri 7 Feb when we travel back to Tel Aviv and have (currently) free time until out flight back on Saturday afternoon.

Janie mentioned that he had had a great brief on IO and I know my Commanding Officer is very interested in how we can practically operate in the ‘Grey Zone’ more effectively.

I appreciate that it is a very long shot both because I have given you no warning but also because it is on a Friday afternoon but if anyone near to Tel Aviv would be willing to give us a short brief it would be fantastic. I totally understand if the answer is ‘no’ !

I hope that you’re still on the International Cooperation Desk? If so, I’d like to introduce you to a friend of mine, Sam Abayomi, who is planning a Battlefield Study to Israel later this year. I suggested that he investigate the possibility of the IDF IO team talking them through some contemporary operational IO vignettes. When Col Frankel visited last year, he briefed us on some really fascinating vignettes that I think would be really interesting for a Battlefield Study, looking at the integration of joint effects including IO.

I’ll leave Sam to tie in with you and scope what is in the art of the possible.
