Our cover this week considers the best way to stop the rot in South Africa, a country beset by corruption, economic stagnation and unemployment. After the atrocious nine-year presidency of Jacob Zuma, the case for dumping the ANC, which has ruled uninterrupted since the end of apartheid in 1994, is strong. Even so, we conclude that the ANC’s current leader, Cyril Ramaphosa, is best placed to sort out the mess. He is an honest reformer and a skilful politician. But he will need a convincing win in next month’s elections if he is to clean up his party and revive the nation
